IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark Anthony
Garner
January 4, 1959 – February 28, 2025
Mark Anthony Garner born January 4, 1959 to Andy Dene and Jewel Dean Kelley Garner in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He died at his home in Grapevine at the age of 66, and opened his eyes to see Heaven and most importantly, His Jesus, Friday, February 28, 2025.
Schooled in the Watson Chapel district, he graduated High School in 1977 where he still holds a 4A state golf championship award and trophy there. He grew up playing baseball, the drums in the band, and hunted and fished at every chance.
He worked at Tastee Freeze as a teen, later at Illinois Tool Works, then at Allied Signal Chemical Company making and delivering liquid alum at both the Pine Bluff and the Ashdown plant. The company changed names many times through his 42 years of employment. He retired after his last 7 years as the Chemtrade Plant Supervisor/Manager of the Pine Bluff Works.
After 2 years as best friends and 7 years as sweethearts, Mark married Jackie Sue Wilson. They have enjoyed married life together for 44 plus years. They are blessed with two sons and their wives, Joshua and Lauren Jackson Garner and Matthew and Amanda Potter Garner, along with four grandchildren: Katherine, Andrew, Eli, and Sophie. Mark often spoke of his sons as good men, responsible, successful, and well married! The grands hung the moon and Mark often joked that our house will almost always be the "house of YES" for them. He also has one younger brother, Jeff and wife Stacy Turnage Garner, many cousins, nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws that he cherishes. Growing up he always claimed to be well known as "The Favorite Grandchild" of many grandchildren to Grandma Kelley.
Mark was a very enthusiastic and avid hunter and fisherman. His biggest thrills and smiles were in the woods or in a boat on the water. From coon, deer, squirrel, quail, pheasant, turkey, frogs, ducks, to brim, crappie, bass (including a 10 pound bass) , he enjoyed it all! To Mark, a deer stand meant a peaceful time to see God's creations and be tuned into HIM, and the thrill to bust hide!
At 9 years old, he accepted Jesus as his Savior! Since then he has enjoyed singing many songs for The Lord. He was blessed to serve as choir member, song leader, teacher, and as a deacon for many years at Bethany #1 Missionary Baptist Church of Grapevine and enjoyed the fellowship of many brothers and sisters in Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan with Bro. Roger Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery at Grapevine. Visitation is also Wednesday, from 10:30 A.M. until service time.
Memorials may be made to Bethany #1 Missionary Baptist Church
The family wants to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Taylor, Chelsea, Paula, Stoney, and Morgan with Arkansas Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
