IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha
Lancaster
October 10, 1945 – September 15, 2024
Martha Lee (Gwin) Lancaster, 78, of Sheridan, AR, died after a brief illness on September 15, 2024, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
While growing up in her small southern town, with her big dimples and quirky sense of humor, she made many friends, traveling on her bike, dropping in on residents, young and old, as well as local business owners who treasured the times she happily bounced into their stores for a quick visit.
Martha was always a champion of those who faced challenges, whether physically, developmentally, socially, or financially. She supported numerous nonprofits, and showered her family, friends, and community with thoughtful gifts and unwavering support. Her kind heart extended to animals as well, especially any who were hungry and lucky enough to stop by her house day or night.
A talented musician and arts lover, she worked for the Arkansas Arts Center and the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. She was an accomplished keyboardist, playing piano and organ for churches and other events.
Martha met Bob Lancaster, the love of her life, in middle school, and the couple were married over 60 years. When Bob was chosen to become a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, it was Martha who charmed his professors the most with her southern charm and quick wit.
Besides her husband Bob, Martha leaves behind her children, Laura Lancaster Tayman (Mike) and John Scott Lancaster (Jeannie); her grandchildren, Anna and Joseph Tayman; her cousin, Raymond Gwin; her in-laws, Jim Lancaster (Betty) and Bill Lancaster (Scarlett); her nieces and nephews, including her beloved niece Karen Goins; and her grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
There will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in her memory to the charity of your choice.
