Melvis Benfield Smith of Sheridan, Arkansas was born May 14, 1932 in Grapevine, the daughter of Clarence and Cora Crutchfield Benfield. She was a member of New Life Fellowship Church in Sheridan. She enjoyed camping, crocheting, cooking, and going to deer camp. She also liked to go with her husband Dewitt to Hardees to eat breakfast and meet up with friends to play Dominoes.

Mrs. Smith passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton at the age of 90.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt Smith; brother Charles (Beunah) Benfield; sister, Joyce Smith and Winnie Jo Croy.

Survivors: son, Carl Gene (Diane) Smith; brother, Carl (Wanda) Benfield; 2 grandchildren, Adam (Amber) Smith, Brittany (Justin) Moody all of Sheridan; 3 great grandchildren, Lakyn, Logan and Landon and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 21, 2022 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Cypert officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation is from 2:00 until service time.

Pallbearers are Adam Smith, Justin Moody, Jerry Lee Smith, Jason Beard, Ray Dean Shoptaw and Tim Benfield.
