Obituary

Michael James "Mike" Brown of East End was born, April 22, 1968 (he loved to joke that everyone celebrated his birthday because it coincided with "Earth Day") the son of James and Janice Luckey Brown in Little Rock.  He was a Christian who never fell out of love with Jesus.  He unashamedly shared his faith with everyone he met, and would never meet a stranger.  He proudly served alongside his Church family at Grace Church in East End.  Mike had a gift and passion for playing the drums and used that talent to honor God by playing at his Church for many years, and before that, he was the drummer for the "Happy Rhythms" gospel group for 10 years. He was an avid baseball fan, especially the Boston Red Sox, even naming his beloved dog, Fenway.  He worked doing tapered design for roofing systems.  He could build or repair virtually anything, and there were not many of life's problems he couldn't solve by tinkering around in his shop. Mike would joke that you truly can find anything at Wal-Mart, especially considering he met his soul-mate Leslie while they were both working there. They married 2 years later and have been on a non-stop adventure ever since.  They both had a passion for seeing the country together, so they went on many adventures. They also loved to go camping in their RV at the lake, at the beach and most importantly to see their three grandkids in Nashville.  Even when they weren't traveling, they still worked on projects at home and did all of it together, growing more in love along the way.  Mike was such a proud dad to his two kids, Jacob and Juli, and then those grandkids came along, and it was game over, he was smitten.  He was their "Mookie" and when he wasn't spending time with them in Nashville or Little Rock, he would talk to them through video calls.  Mike was so giving that he would ultimately drop everything to help anyone out. God so richly blessed Mike in so many ways and he gladly offered himself as an instrument of praise.

Mike went to Heaven on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at his home, at the age of 56.  Waiting to hug his neck when he got there were his grandparents, Cecil and Polly Brown and F.R. and Maragaret Luckey

Survivors include his best friend and wife of 35 years, Leslie Carter Brown of East End; son and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Somer Brown and their children, Gabriel, Evelyn "Evie", and Micah of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Julianna "Juli" Brown and her partner, Anthony Schoof of Little Rock; parents, James and Janice Luckey Brown of East End; sisters, Missy Breshears (Terry) of Ava, Missouri, Amy Rhoads (Kevin) of Redfield.  He is also survived by numerous other extended family members and an untold number of friends, some he knew and some he didn't, all whose lives were touched by Mike's loving and giving heart. Last but certainly not least, he is survived by his two dogs, Fenway and Murphy.
