N. Thomas Jacobs of Sheridan, Arkansas was born July 30, 1953 at Malvern, the son of the late E.J. and Christine Henderson Jacobs. He was a member of Keith United Methodist Church at Malvern, formerly served in the United States Marines, loved to hunt and fish and had a great concern for the environment. Mr. Jacobs was a teacher and head of the science department at Sheridan High School. He taught physics, A.P. Environmental Science and principles of technology. He was the inventor and coach of the Envirothon project. He worked alongside students creating an electric vehicle and their go-cart placed 2nd in the state tournament. Mr. Jacobs formerly taught at Oark and Huttig and had been a teacher for 18 years.
He was more than a teacher to so many of his students. He was their mentor, their motivator and most of all, their friend.
Mr. Jacobs died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 54. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Jeffrey and Michael Jacobs and a brother, Father David Jacobs.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Kemp Jacobs of Sheridan; Daughters and their families, Tina and husband Darrell Spells and children Paula and Hayden of El Dorado, Eva and husband Kevin Harrison and son Connor of Jonesboro, and Brenna Rose Young of Sheridan; Brother, Jerry Don Jacobs of Friendship; Sister, Sandra Straczek of Malvern; Nieces, Gina, Jennifer, and Megan; 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews and a large number of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 17, 2007 at First Baptist Church of Sheridan. Burial will follow in Resthaven Cemetery at Malvern. Visitation: 5:00-8:00 P.M.
