IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nettie Moore
Davenport
May 22, 1933 – October 8, 2021
I was given the honor to write the obituary for my grandmother, Nettie Davenport and as the writer in my family I still find it so difficult to summarize her life. Not because I'm at a loss for words, but more so when you've lived such an incredible life as her where do we start?
Let's start at the beginning.
Nettie, or Meme as the kids call her, was born on May 22, 1933 in Sheridan, Arkansas and resided in town until the age of 7, when the family moved to Omak, Washington. She returned to Prattsville her junior year where she met the love of her life, Kenneth, (also known as Papa)
Finishing up her high school education, Nettie began beauty school where she would often practice her skills on her friends and family members especially her younger brother, Charles who will never forget the time she gave him a perm! Nettie devoted a lot of her career to doing hair for the elderly who couldn't do it themselves and that truly speaks volumes to just how kindhearted she was.
On a crisp Friday afternoon at 2:30PM on Christmas Day in 1953, Nettie and Kenneth were married thus setting in motion the beginning of a family of their own, one I am so blessed and honored to be a part of.
In 1957, Janet was born, and not far along after in 1961, Carol as well. The family lived in Fordyce until 1970 when they moved to Spring Hill, Louisiana until 1977 when the continued their journey to Nacogdoches, Texas. It wasn't until 2006 that Nettie and Kenneth made their final stop and coming full circle back to Sheridan, Arkansas.
From 1977 till now, Nettie saw the birth of 3 grand kids, Sarah, Matt and Lauren all of which felt her love, kindness AND wooden spoons! She eventually retired the wooden spoon with the birth of the great grandchildren, Caden, Mason, and Brooks, who she loved unconditionally.
We live in her memory, and sing her song of love, compassion and kindness.
Meme was a member of Moore's Chapel Methodist Church near Sheridan and a retired hair dresser. She would go to nursing homes and fix the residents hair.
