Othel Alvin Smith of Sheridan, Arkansas was born October 19, 1924 at Grapevine, Arkansas, the son of the late Lonnie and Ella Smith Smith. He was a member of Hope Pentecostal Church and had retired from Dillards as well as Cotton Belt Railroad. Mr. Smith was an avid deer and turkey hunter and was a longtime member of Smith-Vailes-Taylor Hunting Club.. He enjoyed gardening, making bird houses and walking sticks out of crepe myrtle limbs. He especially enjoyed camping with his family, and his favorite part of that was enjoying all the good food and fellowship.
Mr. Smith died Friday, August 9, 2013 at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock at the age of 88. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Williams Smith; brothers, Basil Smith and Harvey Smith.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Carl Benfield of Sheridan; brothers, Luther Smith and Dewitt Smith of Sheridan; sisters, Wilma Moring of Monticello and Geneva Greene of Roswell, New Mexico; grandchildren, Carla and husband Bob Reap, Chris and wife Cristy Benfield; great grandchildren, Chase Reap and Brooke Benfield; step great grandchildren, Faith, Cathy, and Andrea; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
"Dear Meeting" services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 12, 2013 at Hope Pentecostal Church in Sheridan with Bro. Raymond Derrick, Bro. Keith Pennington, and Bro. Jimmy Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00-4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
