Oza May Stewart Herring of North Little Rock, AR, age 89, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 29, 2016.
She was born December 31st, 1926 in the Duckett Community near Wickes, AR to Ira and Laura Stewart.
She was a retired teacher of 35 years, teaching in Sheridan for twenty years.
Mrs. Herring received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia.
She enjoyed sports, especially basketball, working in a garden, canning, sewing, and crafts.
She deeply loved her family, enjoyed spending time with them, watching them grow, and could often be found sewing and crafting gifts for family and friends.
On January 20, 1951 she married Clarence Herring of Wickes, and became stepmother to four children. She and Clarence had three more.
Mrs. Herring is preceded in death by her husband Clarence, parents, Ira and Laura Stewart, brother Olan Stewart, sister Bonnie Vasil, three of her stepchildren: Clyde, Alva, and Albert Herring, and two grandchildren: Larry Herring and Warren McCall.
She is survived by a sister, Elva (Ross) Williams of Mena, AR, stepdaughter Clara York of Searcy, AR, sons Thomas Herring and Ira Jim (Stacy) Herring of Sheridan, AR, daughter Evelyn (Johnny) Taylor of White Hall, AR.
Also twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, seventeen great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild.
She was a member of Hardin Baptist Church in White Hall, and a dedicated and active worker of several churches through the years where she taught Sunday School and worked in Vacation Bible School wherever she was needed. She was also a faithful prayer warrior and student of the Bible.
After her husband Clarence died she spent many years living with her daughter Evelyn and Johnny Taylor who were her caregivers until she moved into Robinson Nursing Home in North Little Rock where she made many friends, looked after several of her peers, and became the queen of bingo, saving her winnings to use as Christmas and Birthday gifts for her family.
Her gentle heart and loving soul will be deeply missed by her family and a multitude of friends.
Family Visitation will be Tuesday, 6-8pm at Memorial Gardens, funeral service Wednesday, 10am at Memorial Gardens, and interment at Daniels Cemetery in Wickes at 2:30pm. with Bro. Johnny Taylor and Michael Walton officiating.
