Paula Jean Wylie, age 86 of Leola, Arkansas departed this life at St. Vincent hospital on Thursday, November 21, 2024. She was born on November 17, 1938 to Paul (Pete) and Maxine Smoot in Okanogan, WA.
She is survived by her son Paul Wylie (Cindy), daughters Donna Rettstatt (Danny), Susan Wylie, Marsha Wylie, granddaughters Megan Wylie, Amber Cronkhite (Drew), grandsons Justin Rettstatt (Sarah), Lathan Wylie (Madeline), great-grandchildren Cooper and Greyson Cronkhite, Lilah, Finley and JJ Rettstatt. She is preceded in death by her husband Douglas C. Wylie, daughter Cynthia Wylie and grandson Jarrod Wylie.
Paula was born in Okanogan, WA however, the family relocated to Los Angeles where she lived as a young child and attended school through the 6th grade. Her parents returned to their hometown of Leola, Arkansas at that time and she graduated high school at Leola High School in 1956. She married Douglas Wylie in 1958 and went to work as a clerk in the Leola Post Office in 1960. She worked hard, loved her job and advanced to became the Post Master for the Leola Post Office where she later retired after 32 years in 1992.
Paula and her husband were members of the Grant County Fair Board for many years and belonged to the Dallas County Cattlemen's Association. Paula was an only child but upon marrying Douglas C. Wylie because a part of a large family with many brother and sisters in law and nieces and nephews. She always enjoyed the large family get togethers, cooking and visiting. She had a special fondness for her nephew Mack (Sherry) Wylie and always appreciated his help and looked forward to his visits.
The family will have a graveside celebration at Leola Cemetery in Leola, Arkansas on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM with Bro. Tommy Gifford officiating.
