That long last whistle blew on June 24, 2022, for Phinis H. Warnix, on his final train ride home.
Phinis Warnix was born to Fred and Nancy (Nannie) Warnix on March 3, 1935 in Calhoun County, Arkansas.
Phinis was preceded in death by his two brothers, Philton Warnix and LA Warnix and two brother-in-laws: Carrol Baker and Carl Baker.
When Phinis was 12, his parents moved the family to Leola. This is where he met and married Marilyn Baker, his wife of sixty-four years.
In his youth, Phinis worked his father's farm, raised hogs, and rode the open ranges. In 1967, he moved to El Dorado, where he worked as an engineer on the Rock Island Railroad line.
Phinis, Marylin, and their two daughters, Philis and Nancy, lived in El Dorado for 27 years, at Main and Timberlane. They were members of West Side Baptist church.
Phinis and Marilyn moved back to Leola in 1994 and here Phinis raised hogs as a hobby. Phinis Warnix was widely regarded as a visionary in the land and timber industry.
Phinis took great pride in tending to the animals on his farm, but his greatest joy was his family. He lived to provide for his growing family, and to care for them all.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn Baker Warnix, and his daughters Philis (married to Jack Wood), and Nancy (married to William Reynolds). Phinis leaves behind three grandchildren: Audra Dickson, John Dickson, and Marie Reynolds. John Dickson and his wife Kelsey gave Phinis a great-grandson, who is named John Dickson like his father. Survivors also include three sisters-in-law: Joyce Warnix, Rosemary Warnix, and Phoebe Baker, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
Services will be held at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan, Arkansas. Visitation is at 10:00 AM on Friday, with funeral services immediately following at 11:30.
