Reba Jewel Simpson Smith experienced the wonder of Heaven on March 14, 2026 at the age of 91.
Reba was born just south of Sheridan on May 9, 1934 to Brady Faril and Verna Bell Abney Simpson. She grew up on the farm and told stories of working in the fields and picking cotton. She also had fond memories of playing with siblings and cousins.
She married Gilbert M. Smith in 1957 and together they raised four daughters. She completed her bachelor’s degree in education and began her teaching career, first at Grapevine then, at Sheridan Junior High School from which she retired around 1988.
Reba loved her family, her Lord and church - attending regularly and teaching Sunday School. She also loved singing, especially with her sisters, tending her roses, attending Gaither concerts and Razorback games. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers, Faril, Herman and Duel Simpson.
She is survived by daughters: Vicki (Bill) Mathews and Lori (Ron) Angel all of Benton, Terri (Steve) Weintraub of Mansfield Texas and Judi (Dwight) Simpson of Sheridan. She is also survived by grandchildren: Ashley Abbott-Sanders, Brian Harper, Britany Harper, Amanda Short, Kristen Self, Brennan Weintraub, Landon Weintraub, Colin Simpson, Cameron Simpson, Connor Simpson; 10 great-grandchildren and siblings Eulan (Alice) Simpson of Benton, Leta Veazey of Sheridan, and Ima (Kenneth) Thomason of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Services will be held at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan on Thursday March 19 at 11:00 a.m. with a period of visitation beginning at 10:00. Burial will follow at memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all the staff at CrownPoint Retirement Center for her four happy years there, to Amberwood Nursing Center of Benton for their unbelievable loving care of her over the last two months and to Gentiva Hospice. Memorials may be made to Lost Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 1403 W Center St, Sheridan, AR 72150.
