Robert Lee Bird of Dogwood Community, Arkansas, near Prattsville, was born September 5, 1944, the son of the late Felix and Zula Crutchfield Bird.  He spent most of his life, and raised his family, in that same community. A longtime member of Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church, he was a retired heavy equipment operator.  He owned and operated his own business for many years, starting out as a newly married young man with a bulldozer, before he even had a truck to pull it with.  Those humble beginnings turned into a lifetime of hard work and success. Robert Lee was who would get the call to do the difficult and dangerous jobs, and make it look easy.  In addition to his equipment, he also owned a trucking business and a logging business.  After 30 years as an owner, he retired. No surprise to anyone he didn't stay retired long.   He came out of retirement to work for Harper Construction as a dozer operator.  When he wasn't working, he really enjoyed turkey hunting and fishing.  Robert Lee was happiest spending time at home with his family.

Mr. Bird died Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his family, at the age of 80.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Shoptaw Bird; son and daughter-in-law, Robbie and Sue Bird; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Gene Nelson; brother, Tommy Bird; sisters, Katheryn Lamb and Anna May Bird; grandchildren, Mason (Haley) Bird, Justus Bird, Kayla (Branden) Howard, Kortni Nelson; great grandchildren, Casey, Zula, Kimber, Austen.  He is also survived by numerous other extended family members and longtime friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M., Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Philadelphia Cemetery at Prattsville, with Bro. Michael Walton officiating.  There will be no visitation.
