Robert Gene Newton and Joyce Marie Simondes Newton both of Leola, Arkansas passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022 from injuries resulting from a car accident in Hot Springs. They were married June 24, 1967.

Mr. Newton was born June 29, 1946 in Leola, the son of the late R.G. and Sylvia Wingard Newton. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching car racing on TV, and taking care of his dogs and cats. He was a Baptist  minister for over 27 years, was retired from International Paper Company and was also a member of Brush Creek Hunting Club.

Mrs. Newton was born October 17, 1946 in Bismarck, the daughter of the late Earl and Myrtle Thomason Simondes. She was a graduate of Draughan School of Business. She loved to grow beautiful flowers, shop and decorate their home. She also enjoyed taking care of her son and grandsons and their dogs and cats.

They were both members of Ouachita Missionary Baptist Church in Donaldson.

Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Harold Newton. Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors: son, Tim and wife Carolyn Newton of Leola; brothers, Kenny Newton, Claude (Sally) Newton, Charlie (Pam) Newton, all of Leola; sister, Ruth Ellen McGarity; grandchildren, Robert Scott Newton, Dusty Clark, Wade (Brandy) Clark and 7 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for them will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Miller and Bro. Brad Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor Cemetery in Leola.  Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 Wednesday at the funeral home.
