Roger Dale Varnell of Sheridan, Arkansas was born July 15, 1952 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the son of the late John Olin and Freeda Swint Varnell. He was an active member of Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan. He was a graduate of White Hall High School and had served in the Arkansas National Guard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking for his family, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. In his earlier years, he loved coaching minor league football at White Hall.

Roger died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at UAMS in Little Rock at the age of 65.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jon Varnell.

Survivors: wife, Debbi Waits Varnell of Sheridan; son, Eric Varnell of Sheridan; daughter, Teri and husband Ray Owens of Sheridan; daughter-in-law, Tammy Varnell of Sheridan; brother, Robert Varnell of Pine Bluff; grandchildren, Peyton Varnell, Megan and husband Billy Tompkins; great grandson, Noah and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 22, 2017 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. John Mooney officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 6:00 -8:00 P.M. Pallbearers are Kris Persons, Billy Tompkins, Michael Varnell, Phillip Varnell, Jerry Cotton, Chris Carter, Darrell Roberts and Aaron Owens.
