IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ross
Mote
December 14, 1960 – April 18, 2021
Ross Alan Mote of Sheridan, Arkansas was born December 14, 1960
in Little Rock, Arkansas to James Ross (J.R.) and Mary Riggan Mote. He
grew up in Sheridan and was a member of First Landmark Missionary
Baptist Church. He became a sports enthusiast at a very young age.
Playing football, basketball, baseball, and golf throughout the year
became a way of life for him, but he eventually focused on golf. He
graduated from Sheridan High School in 1979 and continued his education
with a golf scholarship to Garland County Community College. Later, he
studied at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Henderson State
University.
Ross learned about the insurance business from working with his
parents at State Farm Insurance, but once his dad retired, he became an
entrepreneur himself. His interest in sales led to establishing businesses
that would meet the needs of Grant County residents and nearby
communities with auto parts, professional lawnmowers, and other small
equipment. Later, he began selling insurance again as an independent
insurance agent. It became a tradition for The Buzz to broadcast their radio
program from his shop every spring. He always looked forward to the food
and especially the fellowship with family and friends on those days.
His greatest joy was being with his family. They were the loves of his
life. He was a devoted husband to Cheryl for 38 years. Once Nick, Adam,
and Christian became involved in extracurricular activities, he received
more pleasure watching them rather than playing the games himself. You
could also find him at his barn watching a western by the fire, or mowing
grass on a Gravely.
After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Ross is not suffering
anymore. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 18, 2021 at
his home. There is great comfort in knowing that cancer did not have the
last word, but God did. Ross is now spending an eternity in heaven with
Him.
He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Billy Lawson; nephew, Shawn
Raney; uncle, Bobby Riggan; grandparents, J. Lee and Thelma Mote, Alva
and Amy Riggan, and step-grandfather, Tony Harper; brothers-in-law, Bo
Harris and Eddie Raney.
