Roy Lee (RL) Rash of Sheridan, Arkansas passed away at home and was greeted into Heaven on May, 25, 2023. After several years of being ill he is at peace and in the presence of our Almighty God.
RL was born at home on April 19, 1935 to Ray and Gillie Rash. He was raised in Joan, Arkansas with his 3 brothers DW, Eugene and Allen (Ollie) Rash. RL was drafted into the US Army in 1958. He told the story that he had tried to get out of going into the service by telling the authorities he didn't have transportation to the office in Arkadelphia. Much to his dismay, the local Sheriffs office happily picked him up and gave him a ride to town. Nevertheless he happily served our country even being assigned a tour to Germany. He married the love of his life, Tommie Mackey on Dec. 21, 1961. RL was promoted to Sergeant prior to being discharged in 1964. He was honored to stand as a veteran at special events.
RL and Tommie built the house they currently live in shortly after being married. Over the years they added on rooms as their needs and family grew. RL was a skilled carpenter and built anything his boss wanted. Together they became quite skilled and enjoyed crafting for friends and family. He always carried his little notepad in his shirt pocket along with a pencil and tape measure just in case Tommie found something she wanted him to duplicate. She was always his number ONE. He took part (maybe not happily) in her shenanigans including the attempt to dig up a palm tree while on vacation in Florida along with the many flowers he dug up in fields and side streets she had spotted.
RL had a heart of gold and the "Rash temper" as Tommie would say. He would help anyone but didn't take "anything" from anyone. He and Tommie enjoyed traveling and was always ready for a road trip.
RL was the best papaw and took his role seriously. He proudly attended every important event and even chaperoned several field trips. He loved to pick up the grands at school and treat them to McDonalds.
RL is survived by Tommie Rash, his bride of 62 years; his 2 sons: Mark (Tammy) of Little Rock, Arkansas; Shawn (Jill) of Olive Branch, Mississippi; Grandchildren: Mallory (Cole) Elledge of Benton, Arkansas; Jonathan (Kayla) Rash of Alexander, Arkansas; Mackenzie Rash of Little Rock, Arkansas; Bailey and Darby Williams of Olive Branch, Mississippi; Great-Grandchildren: Emory and Emmett Elledge and Liam Myers and another way on the way; 2 brothers DW (Sarah) Rash of Sparkman, Arkansas and Eugene (Brenda (deceased)) Rash of Malvern, Arkansas and a host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. RL's dear brother Ollie was waiting on him in Heaven.
