Samuel Mack
Cook, Sr.
Jan 6, 1945 — Jul 16, 2026
Samuel Mack Cook Sr., born January 6, 1945, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on July 16, 2026.
Mack lived a life defined by faith, service, and love for his family. From an early age, he understood the importance of duty and helping others. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 until 1968.
Following his military service, Mack began a career in law enforcement that spanned over 30 years. He spent most of his career with the Pine Bluff Police Department, where he rose to the rank of detective lieutenant and led the Major Crimes Division. His work required courage, wisdom, patience, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Mack was known to all in the community and was respected by everyone.
Although Mack took great pride in serving his country and his community, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love for his wife, Joye, was deep. The devotion they shared was evident to everyone and a beautiful legacy for his family.
Mack’s faith was the foundation of his life. His love for the Lord guided the way he served others, cared for his family, and faced each season of life. That faith now lives on through the generations of the family he loved so dearly. While his family mourns his passing, they also rejoice in the promise that Mack is now home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mack is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Joye Cook; sister Cindy Hillman of Pine Bluff; his children, Mary Neal (Keith) French of Little Rock, Samuel Mack Cook Jr. of Little Rock, Nathan (Jami) Cook of Sheridan, and Elizabeth (Danny) Johnson of Little Rock; grandchildren, Caroline (Will) Peeples of Little Rock, Susan (Thomas) Pryor of Little Rock, Mary Daniel (Cody) Shopper of North Kansas City, Samuel Mack Cook III. of Little Rock, Jake (Danielle) Cook of Sheridan, Lily (Michael) Baker of Little Rock, Anna Grace Cook of Little Rock, and Cash Cook of Arkadelphia; and great-grandchildren,Greer, Margaret, Sara Mack, Beckham, Isabella, and Adeline.
He is also survived by a host of extended family members, friends, fellow officers, and others whose lives were touched by his kindness, leadership, and faithful example.
Mack leaves behind a remarkable legacy, one of service to his country, dedication to his community, faithfulness to God, and unconditional love for his family. His earthly work is finished, but the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the faith he shared will remain in the hearts of his family forever.
“Lord said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
- Matthew 25:23
