Obituary

Bro. Sheppard Mooney of Prattsville, Arkansas was born April 21, 1925, at Prattsville the son of the late Arlie E. And Elma Nancy Sheppard Mooney. He died Sunday, August 8, 2004 at Towbin VA Medical Center in North Little Rock at the age of 79, was a member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Prattsville, and was a 1943 graduate of Prattsville High School, VFW in Hot Springs and Masonic Lodge, Farmington, Arkansas. He was a Veteran of WW II having served with the US Army, Co C, 116th Inf., Reg.29th Division, seeing service at Omaha Beach, was wounded at St. Lo, France on July 1,1944 and discharged February 26, 1946. He was a Purple Heart recipient and was also awarded a Bronze Star.

Bro. Mooney moved to Longview, Texas in July 1946 where he attended Le Tourneau Technical Institute, Texas Baptist Institute. On June 12, 1947 he married Marie Foster who predeceased him in death on January 25, 1995. Bro. Mooney was licensed to preach April 6, 1955 and was ordained January 13, 1957. He had pastored at Unity MBC, Longview, Texas; Bethel MBC Paris, Arkansas; Little Elm MBC, Farmington, Arkansas; Emmanuel MBC Cove, Arkansas; Immanuel MBC Malvern, Arkansas; Bethel #2 MBC, Rison, Arkansas.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by sisters; Lucille Tisdale and Arene Bennings.

He is survived by sons: Bro. John Mooney and wife Cheryl of Sheridan, Arkansas; Glenn Mooney and wife Lisa of Humphrey, Arkansas: Daughters; Brenda Mooney of White Hall, Diane Ogden and husband Earl of Prairie Grove, Arkansas
Brothers: Earl Mooney of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Brian Mooney of Benton, Arkansas; Bobby Ray Mooney of Camp Verde, Arizona; Sisters: Myrtis Hollinger of Prattsville, Arkansas; Velna Smith of Texarkana, Texas; Jo Buie of Prattsville, Arkansas
Grandchildren; Wayne, David, (Taylor) Selby,, Levon Ogden, Nathan Ogden, Traci (Marley) Abell, Andrea (Ronnie) Waid, Phillip Mooney, Chris and Corey Mooney.
Great Grandchildren: Kylin Abell and Colby Selby

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan with Bro. John Mooney, Bro. Don Goodman, Bro. Earl Mooney and Bro. Jearl Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery at Prattsville. Visitation; 5-8 PM Tuesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
