Shirley Ann Chapman Gilbert, age 88, of Sheridan, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025. She was born February 23, 1936 in Sioux City, Iowa to Charles Wilbur Chapman and Edith Rice.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Gilbert; son, Charley Stanfield; step daughter and husband, Kathy and James Vann; sons in law, Randy Rice and Wayne Hemmert; brothers, Chuck Chapman and Bob Chapman, and sister and husband, Sharon and Lyle Gugin.

She is survived by her children, Bob Stanfield (Rhonda), of Doland, South Dakota, Wayne Stanfield (Lori), Chris Standfield (Cindy), Vickie Rice all of Huron, South Dakota, Martha Whitely (Gary), of Berryville, Dennis Gilbert (Angela), Evelyn Crutchfield (Dale), and Carole Hemmert, all of Prattsville; sister, Charlene Harrell, of Orland, California; 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, and many other extended family members and friends.

Shirley retired from Shippers and the Corp of Engineers. She enjoyed camping, fishing, word searches, Words with Friends, and enjoying the many activities at Crown Point Retirement Center- especially bingo. Attending church and monthly gospel singings at Crown Point were some of her most anticipated events. She had a heart for helping others and enjoyed being around people who made her happy. She will be missed but her memory will be cherished and her legacy will continue through those who loved and cared for her.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 P.M., Monday, February 17, 2025, at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Dale Crutchfield, Wesley Crutchfield, P.J. Mooney, Cody Pruitt, Wayne Gilbert, and Carl Gilbert.

The family would like to thank Sheridan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Affinity Hospice for the care they gave while she was there.
