Obituary

Sue Fitzgerald Stimson of Redfield, Arkansas was born October 26, 1935, in Newport, Arkansas, the daughter of the late John and Winnie Fitzgerald.  Sue graduated from Newport High School and graduated in 1957 from Arkansas State University at Jonesboro, AR. with a Bachelor of Science in Education. While attending ASU she was a Cadet Major in the ROTC program, a member of Phi Mu Sorority, and homecoming queen her senior year. While attending ASU Sue met the love of her life, James Melvin Stimson, and was married in 1957. She started her career as a schoolteacher in Memphis Tennessee, and for the remainder of her career she was a dental assistant in her husband's dental practice for forty years.

She was a beacon of unconditional love, unwavering strength, and boundless kindness, whose gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone she encountered. A devoted wife, cherished mother, doting grandmother, great grandmother, and loyal friend, she dedicated her life to nurturing her family, always putting their needs before her own with a selfless grace that inspired all. Her infectious laugh, warm embrace, and comforting wisdom will be deeply missed, but her beautiful legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will forever live on in our hearts and guide us through life. Sue touched many lives as a mother, teacher, and health care provider and left a strong legacy to carry on her caring and loving ways.

Sue died on Friday, September 19, 2025, at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock at the age of 89. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband of 55 years, Dr. James "Jim" Stimson, son, Dr. James "Mel" Stimson, and Stepfather, William H. Clift.
