IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susy

July 27, 1943 – October 19, 2020
Susy Antonia Wylie Beck, age 77, passed away October 19, 2020, in the Saline Memorial Hospital. She was born July 27, 1943, in Carthage, AR, to William DeKalb (Doc) Wylie and Mary Adelene Stiles Wylie. She is preceeded in death by her parents, an infant sister Mary Lou Wylie, and her husband Arlo Beck. She is survived by many cousins and friends including Joann Helm of Carthage, Paul Orr of Leola, Jeanette Reddin of Little Elm (Texas), Aubrey Finley of Leola, Phyllis Henry of Leola, Terry Finley of Sheridan, and special friend and cousin Kathy Finley of Sheridan. Susy's four pets, Lou, Fado, Tux, and Tiger were her "children".
Susy graduated from Henderson State Teachers College in 1965 with a degree in music education and received her Master's Degree in piano performance there in the 1970's. She taught music in Mena and in Sheridan before beginning a career with the US Postal Service, working 34 years as a rural mail carrier.
Susy's love of music and dance remained with her throughout her life. She accompanied, directed, and performed. She was a resident singer with the Opera Theater at Wildwood. She sang with the chorus of the Hot Springs Music Festival. She participated in local productions, and entertained residents of nursing homes.
Susy enjoyed participating in music gatherings including Little Rock Musical Coterie, AML (Amateur Musicians League), and Piano Rep.
Susy was a friend to all animals. She fed the birds and welcomed many stray dogs and cats into her home. No one could work the daily cryptoquote faster than Susy! Lengthy telephone conversations with friends Kathy and Ginny took place daily, and were a bright spot in these "stay-at-home" days.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville.
Due to Covid 19, masks and social distancing are required. Memorials given in memory of Susy can be sent to Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (MONCA) Arkansas District, 1017 North Cleveland, Little Rock, AR, 72207, to a musical organization of your choice, or to an animal rescue organization.
