Shelton Truitt "Smitty" Smith of Sheridan, Arkansas was born December 26, 1924 in Hopkins County, Texas, the son of the late Claude Washington and Lora Irene New Smith. He was a member of First Landmark Baptist Church of Sheridan, a 32nd Degree Mason having served as Grand Master for many years, a self employed business owner, a Gideon, and was a Corporal in the Army serving in Okinawa in World War II.

Truitt was a wise man who was a hard worker. He loved to garden, tell a good story and spend time with those he loved, especially his family.

He went to be with His Lord on Monday, October 4, 2010 at his home at the age of 85.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Auston Harris, and brothers, Bill Smith, Junior Avon Smith, Clifford Dean Smith and an infant brother.

Survivors: Wife of 63 years, Jerri Smith;
Sons, Beauford "Biff" and wife DeeAnn Smith; Danny and wife Mickie Smith;
Daughter, Bonnie and husband Larry Harris all of Sheridan:
Brother, Tommy and wife Lee Smith of Brownsville, California;
Sister, Bobbie Sheehan of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey;
17 Grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren;
Special Pet companion, Buddy; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 8, 2010 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation: Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
