Vernon Gilbert "Smiley" Jones of Bismarck, Arkansas was born July 20, 1930 in Sheridan, Arkansas the son of the late Charlie and Clevie Grubbs Jones. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Bismarck and had served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid fisherman and bird hunter. He was retired from Cotton Belt Railroad after 37 years.

Mr. Jones died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at St. Joseph's Mercy Medical Center in Hot Springs at the age of 80.

Son, Larry and wife Shiela Jones of Hot Springs;
Step-sons, Keith Johnson of Little Rock, Rickey Johnson of Benton, Lance Johnson of Little Rock and Todd Johnson of Bismarck; Brother, Billy Eugene and wife Shirley Jones of Hot Springs; Aunt, Flossie Cotton of Sheridan; 2 grandsons, 2 great granddaughters, and 7 step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan with Bro. Jim Agee officiating. Burial will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 5:00-7:00 P.M. Friday. Memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
