OBITUARY

Virginia Victoria Williams Arnold was born June 24, 1926, in Prattsville, Arkansas. She was the fifth of ten children born to the late Sylvanda Benning Williams and Clarence Williams. She died at the age of 97 on January 12, 2024, surrounded by family and loving staff members of Crown Point Retirement Center.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Murry Arnold, one sister, Barbara West, six brothers, Joe Howard Williams, Tommy Williams, Charlie Williams, Ralph Williams, Jim Williams, and Orville Williams, and one infant grandson, Arnold Gale Sutton.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vicky Arnold and Steve Sutton; son and daughter-in-law, Danny Arnold and Georgia Smedley; grandson, Clayton Arnold; sister, Nancy Evans; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Sue and Clyde Gibbins; sisters-in-law, Zetha Arnold Johnson and Shirley Arnold Tubbs; a host of nieces and nephews; and two friends who were more like family, Jeanette Shepherd and David Hooks.

Virginia was one of the few remaining charter members of First Landmark Baptist Church. She loved the church, she loved the Lord, and she was always a faithful servant. Her faith in the Lord served her well throughout her long life.

She was the last remaining charter member of Sheridan Golf Club. Anyone who knew her knew that she was a competitive golfer through and through, and one of the very best. She won the Ladies Club Championship multiple times throughout the 70s and 80s. She even shot her age at 84. Golf was her passion. She was also an avid Razorback fan, second only to her love of golf.

She was a truly remarkable, loving mother who always put family first. When her kids were young, she was the first to volunteer for school activities. She never missed her children's sporting or band events, taking many road trips as a chaperone. That loving, caring and constant support continued into her children's adult lives. She also remained active in her local community. In her 80s, she and Jeanette Shepherd co-coached a girls' basketball team. She embraced everyone and made them feel special to her.

A very special thank you goes to the staff at Crown Point Retirement Center. While so many people were kind and loving caregivers, Debbie Watson deserves special recognition for providing outstanding support, companionship, and care for the 2 ½ years Virginia spent at Crown Point. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Crown Point Retirement Center in the name of Virginia Arnold.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Her nephew, Mark Evans, will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at Philadelphia Cemetery.

Pallbearers are nephews, Dewayne Williams, Parker Parish, and Jack Roseberry; great-nephews, Bryan Roseberry, Claigh Roseberry, and Heath Roseberry; and friend, David Hook. Nephew, Ralph Williams will serve as an Honorary pallbearer.
