Walter Darel Names of Sheridan, Arkansas, formerly of Bend, Oregon was born December 12, 1929 at Santa Maria, California, the son of the late Walter David and Wilma Delores Miller Names. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, was a United States Army Korean War Veteran, and was a retired Brakeman having worked for 41 years with Burlington Northern Railroad which was formerly Northern Pacific Railroad. Mr. Names had a love for the outdoors and considered himself a "gentleman farmer". He had a number of interests including being a licensed pilot, honing his computer skills, square-dancing, animals of all kinds, and just tinkering, building or repairing things around the house. He was described by his family as having "patience personified" and treated everyone, including his children as equals. Mr. Names recently moved to Arkansas for health reasons and to be near family and enjoyed every minute of it. His greatest love was his family. He cherished the moments he spent with each of them and his grandchildren in particular.
Mr. Names died Friday, June 16, 2006 at his home in Sheridan at the age of 76.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Sally Luther Names of Sheridan. They had been married for almost 55 years. Also surviving him are his sons, Kristopher Names and wife Susan of Enumclaw, Washington, Thomas Names and wife Robin of Renton, Washington, Kelly Names and wife Denise of Sheridan, and Billy Names of Sheridan; Daughter, Susan Names of Renton, Washington; Brother, Ronnie Matthews of Longview, Washington; Sister, Candy Koons of Napavine, Washington; Seven grandchildren, including one who is currently serving our Nation in Iraq and 4 Great Grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan. Interment will be August 13, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery in Seattle, Washington.
