Obituary

Harrold Wayne "Wayne" Shoptaw, named in honor of John Wayne, passed away on May 6th, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on August 30th, 1942, in Bauxite, Arkansas, Wayne was a lifelong Christian and a member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, leaving behind a legacy of faith and love.

Wayne was the beloved son of the late Carthel and Lavoie Shoptaw of Prattsville. He was preceded in death by his son Scott Shoptaw, his brother Thurman Shoptaw, nephew Barrett Shoptaw, brother-in-law David Witherow, step grandchild, Alexandria Austin; and his parents.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters Renee Donaldson (Joey), Joi Davis (James); step-daughters, Shannah Austin (Gary) of Bryant, Leah Middleton (Allen) of Little Rock, and his daughter-in-law Diana Shoptaw. Wayne will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Amanda McNair (Jeremy) and Brian Mullen; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Anniston McNair: step grandchildren, Ashley Hamric, Rachel Sinyard,  Autumn Austin, Michael Austin, Alycson Austin, Jon Paul Austin: 9 step great grandchildren;

Survived by siblings Joyce Bird (Robert Lee), Joan Witherow, and Gary Shoptaw (Charlotte), along with several cherished nieces and nephews, Wayne's memory will continue to light the lives of those he touched. His special furbaby, "Binky," will miss him dearly.

A proud graduate of Prattsville High School, Class of 1960, Wayne entered the insurance industry in 1963 and was a fully licensed agent until his retirement in 2019. He was known for his wit, gentle spirit, and impeccable style. His sharp mind and love for trivia, astronomy, and storytelling enriched the lives of many. An avid fan of Western films, Wayne particularly enjoyed John Wayne classics like "Big Jake" and "McLintock!"

In moments shared and tales told, Wayne often echoed a beloved song's promise, "Look for me, I'll be there!"—words that captured his enduring spirit and hopeful heart.

A graveside service will be held, 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Poe Cemetery in Sheridan, Arkansas, with Bro. Michael Walton officiating. Wayne's caregivers, Misty Pearson and Leanne Johnson, are especially thanked for their devoted service.
