Tommy "Wayne" Winston, 73, of Sheridan, Arkansas passed away peacefully at Baptist Health Hospital in North Little Rock on October 4, 2025. Wayne was born on August 10, 1952 in Malvern. Wayne graduated from Sheridan High School in 1970, while in High School he learned to play bass guitar. He then attended college in Arkadelphia at Henderson State University where he earned his degree in Music, and joined the tennis team and for many years he won numerous matches and tournaments.
He loved music and played bass guitar in numerous groups with high school friends and many new friends he had made throughout the years. He began his first Band Directors job in Stuttgart in 1975. In August of 1977, he accepted a band directing position at Malvern Junior High School, then he went on to teach band at Malvern Senior High School. During summer breaks he would continue to further his education where later he received his Master's in music. In 1991 he accepted a position as Band Director in Pine Bluff at Dollarway High School, along with being an adjunct professor at University of Arkansas (UAM) at Monticello. Wayne gained the love and friendships of so many students, staff and parents. He tried to emphasize the bands ability to play but also performing memorable halftime shows. Students would be in formation to the latest hit songs and dance to them as well. Wayne would write the music before it was in sheet music. He was an amazing, intelligent, handsome, talented, loving and caring man. Due to his hearing loss, he retired from teaching band and playing gigs, but his love for music and life never got dull. He always said to be positive, and his love for his famiy was never ending.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Corinne Puckett Winston.
Survivors: children, Eric Winston (Erika) of Smithville, Mo; Aleah Harris (Brian) of White Hall; Melody Winston of White Hall; grandchildren, Anthony and Quinton Jolivette, C.J. Collins, Christopher and Joseph Winston and Bella Kea; siblings, Winston Winston of Sheridan, Neta Smith of Fayetteville, Freddy Winston of Prattsville.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 3:00 PM at First Landmark Baptist Church in Sheridan with Bro. Shawn Hill officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 2:00 PM until service time.
