Obituary

Cassie Mae Jordan Hatch was born in Elaine, Arkansas on December 26, 1934 to the late Audie Johnston Jordan.  Preceded in death her husband George Robert Hatch, brother John H. Jordan, grandparents Mary Alice Ezell Johnston and James Arthur Johnston, and six special aunts and three uncles.  She was a graduate of Elaine High School and Southern State University (now Southern Arkansas University).  At Southern State she was a member of the Baptist Student Union, Business Club, Student Government, Who's Who, and a cheerleader for the Muleriders.  She was also voted Campus Beauty.  While at Southern State College/Southern Arkansas University she met and married George R Hatch in 1955 at Elaine Baptist Church.  In August 1956 they moved to Camden, AR where she started her teaching career at Harmony Grove School, Camden.  She also taught in the business department at Fairview High School.  In 1969, she was selected as Ouachita County Teacher of the Year.  She was a member of the Arkansas Education Association and National Education Association.  In Camden, she was a member of First Baptist Church where she served on the youth committee and taught Sunday School.  She was a member of the Camden Jaycees.

The family moved to Sheridan in June of 1975.  Cassie started teaching typing and Career Orientation at Sheridan Middle School and was the cheerleader sponsor, band booster, and member of Beta Episilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.  She was a member of First Baptist Church where she served in several capacities- youth committee, greeter committee, benevolence committee, WMU, Primetimers, Food Pantry, Operation Christmas Child, Prayers and Squares, nursery volunteer and the Fidelis Sunday School class.  She was also an active member of the Arkansas Retired Teacher Association, Grant County Retired Teacher Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma.

She is survived by three children- Libby Lynn Hatch Bennett (Michael), William Chris Hatch (Angela) of Lake Village, and Ginger Lease Hatch Abernathy (Robert) of Bryant.  Two granddaughters- Lynley Evan Johnson Bellomy (Bruce) and Annalise Faith Robbins.  Two great grandchildren- Robert Easton Bellomy and Ryleigh Evan Bellomy.  She is also survived by two sister-in-laws Bonita Jordan near Bastrop, LA and Sharon Cox Wallace of Fort Smith and numerous nieces, and nephews.

Funeral service will be Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church in Sheridan with Bro. Michael Daugherty officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Sheridan. Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 P.M.

Pallbearers are Mayo Powell, Jimmy Goldman, Ellis Johnson, Jay Johnston, Mac Johnson and Mark Perkins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1201 South Rock, Sheridan, AR  72150.
